Florida Standards

The Florida Standards are the foundational expectations of what ALL students should know and be able to do from Kindergarten through 12th grade. These standards prepare your child for the future by building a better foundation, and ensuring that your child has the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in college, careers, and life.

English Language Arts

Our current English Language Arts (ELA) textbook adoption is Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA). This series is a comprehensive K-5 curriculum two distinct strands for grades K-2 and integrates them into one strand for grades 3-5. This robust design develops foundational skills and oral comprehension with rich and authentic fiction and nonfiction texts. We also utilize iReady Online Instruction and Ready Florida lessons to support the core ELA instruction. Students have a minimum of 90 uninterrupted minutes of ELA instruction daily.

Mathematics

Our current math adoption is GO MATH! Florida. This series has been aligned with the Florida Common Core Standards. In addition to the core math program, we supplement our mathematics curriculum with iReady Online Instruction, and Ready Florida lessons. Teachers also utilize resources from CPALMS. Math is taught for a minimum of 60 minutes each day.

Here are some resources that parents can use to practice at home:

You can encourage your child to read as much nonfiction as fiction.

  • Supply more non-fiction texts
  • Read non-fiction books aloud or with your child
  • Have fun with non-fiction in front of your child

You can help your child learn about the world through reading.

  • Supply series of texts on topics that interest your child
  • Find books that explain how things work and why
  • Discuss non-fiction texts and their ideas

You can help your child read more challenging material.

  • Know what is grade-level appropriate
  • Provide challenging texts as well as books they can read easily
  • Show that challenging books are worth reading

You can talk to your child about reading.

  • Talk about books
  • Read aloud or read the same book as your child and discuss
  • Discuss predictions

You can help build your child confidence in writing.

  • Encourage writing at home
  • Write “books” together using evidence and detail
  • Review samples of exemplar student writing

You can help your child build more vocabulary words.

  • Read often and constantly with young children
  • Read multiple books on the same topic
  • Talk to your children, read to them, listen to them, sing with them, make up silly rhymes and word games
